AMAANA Solidarity Message

AMAANA opposes CAA, police atrocities on silent student protestors and supports national unity

On behalf of its members across the United States and Canada, the Aligarh Medical Alumni Association of North America (AMAANA) strongly condemns the use of excessive force and brutality against the student demonstrators at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Jamia Milia resulting in serious injuries and causing lifelong disabilities both physically and mentally. We strongly deplore this action by those involved and demand a fair and thorough inquiry and justice for all those who are affected by it. We, the alumni of JN Medical College and AMU, are deeply saddened and disturbed by the current situation at our beloved educational institution and request all cooperation and help from you to bring our alma mater to normalcy. The citizens of India have fundamental right to protest peacefully for any issues including the patently discriminatory law (i.e. the Citizenship Amendment Act-CAA). We want to reiterate that this fundamental right should be respected and upheld by the district and university administration and they should be ensured to have a safe environment within our campus.

We also want to send a message to the students and others who are affected by this situation that all members of AMAANA stand in solidarity with them and will provide all necessary support needed for their treatment, rehabilitation and loss. Please don’t hesitate to contact us.
